It is much easier to start slow and increase than to start full out and drop back. Most new runners end up quitting, hurting or both because they try way too hard to be an elute runner on the first time out. Running in high school and running as a middle age adult are two different worlds.
Give yourself a break and begin slow and work your way into a zone that works. After that you can increase your speed and distance.
